I love photographing babies, but I especially love photographing babies that I love even before we meet and that I get to watch grow up for ever and ever! This is my newest niece, and she is gorgeous, and I “heart” her just oh so much! Never have I met as alert a three week old. Or as smiley. Yes, these are all genuine, ‘turn you into a puddle’ smiles to the sound of her momma’s voice. But after so much fussing she did at last succumb to a sweet dreamy sleep.

Welcome to our family, beautiful baby girl.

This sweet little girl stole my heart! As the smallest little person I have photographed (At under 6 pounds!) she was such an easy baby to work (play?) with. I am incredibly thankful for my amazing clients that trust me to catch these fleeting moments. In the days, weeks and months to come, she will change and grow and develop her own personality and ideas, but forever and ever I have been blessed to be a part of crystallizing this moment, this tiny portion of who she is. Thank you. Sherwood Park Baby Photographer 005

PS~ The safety of newborns (and all my clients) is my #1 priority. For photographers and aspiring amateurs, please see this fantastic article on photographing newborns safely. Thank you.

New babies always strike me as such a miracle. Photographing women while they are in the midst of that miracle, life growing and engaging inside them, always brings me back to my own pregnancy and the joy of being apart of something so much bigger than myself. My husband and I often sat and watched this little person kick and roll in wonder, imagining how something so grand could start from two little pieces of each of us so infinitesimal. Spending time with Kimberley brought me right back to the wonder and awe of pregnancy. I was so happy to be able to spend time with this beautiful Momma showing off her miracle. And now I present the future prince or princess, a-la-womb :-)

Happy March!

March 1, 2010

Wow! It has been over two months since I last posted. I have really enjoyed the break that I have been taking over the winter. It is so super wonderful to play with my daughter all day, and to use nap times to clean and take care of my house and family rather than to work on the computer! I do miss you, sweet humming computer, though. And so I come back to you, every single day, but only for a few minutes to quickly check emails, respond and sometimes do a little FB stalking.

So I cannot believe that today marks the 18 month of life outside my tummy for my little monkey! Life has just sped up so incredibly for me this past year. I absolutely LOVE everything about this stage in her little life (it just keeps getting better and better!!!) I love the walking (now running), I love the communication (sweet little words spilling out of her mouth, as well as a few signs) I love the playing, the figuring out, the understanding so stinkin much…I am pretty sure she is brilliant (said like a true parent! lol!) She stuns me every. single. day. You know that feeling when you are so in love your breath catches in your throat and your eyes well up? That is how it is watching her learn and play and grow. I can’t believe how blessed we are to parent her.

So this weekend was the annual Professional Photographers of Canada- Alberta convention, Exposure, which just happened to be in Edmonton (hooray) and so I was able to attend workshops for the first time in about 2 years (can’t go too far with a baby nursing all the time!) I was joined by my amazing friend Alli, and together we had a fantastic time hanging out, learning, laughing, crying, and mostly just enjoying the company of some great Albertan photographers. Although I really did enjoy so much of the 4 day conference, I realized today (at the end of the last full day away from my kidlet) how incredibly lucky I am to stay at home with her. I love that I have a career that allows me the time to stay home and enjoy her, while still giving me that outlet that I need for my creativity and my desire to be apart of something great in other people’s lives. Oh am I a lucky ducky!

I also wanted to show off some gorgeous cards that I just got in for a fabulous client/amazing friend. I so love this little guy’s session! And here is my little 18 month old in her sweet pj’s moments after bouncing out of bed. I love the bed head (she takes after her mama for sure!)

Oh it has taken me so long to narrow down my favorites from this sweet little boy! Him and his brother were excellent little models. I love how tiny newborns are, how fine their hair is and small their little legs are. It is such a joy spending time with these perfect little people. Henry is no exception. He was happy and awake, and happy fast asleep. And his older brother is the cutest little guy ever! You can just imagine the two of them as best friends in a few months. I hope you enjoy some of my favorites. Sherwood Park Newborn Photographer 001

November 13, 2009

I am so thrilled and excited for my good friends who just started their family. She was born on November 1st, exactly 14 months after her soon to be bff (that would be Grace) and boy is she gorgeous! I had some new thing-a-majigs I wanted to test out and she was my willing participant, so patient. She let me play for a few hours, although she did decide to stay awake for the most part. Her Dada is a proud member of Edmonton’s firefighters, so we had to make sure we used some of his equipment to show her off, too. 001

Ooooo I so love the freshest little newborns! They are so snuggle-able and tiny, not to mention as sweet as can be! I met this little princess earlier this week. At 6 days old she was such an amazing trooper. She spent a good portion of our time wide awake and interested in all the commotion, but finally nodded off and slept so angelically! I hope you enjoy this sneak peek as much as I enjoyed getting it ready. She makes my heart melt a little…

Welcome to my new blog!!!

October 31, 2009

I am loving it! I hope that you do too. I love change, especially over the winter. Even though it is still technically fall (once the snow flies it is winter in my books!) You can still peruse my old blog for now, but I am not sure how long that will last.

I have a few ideas about how to make this winter tolerable. For any one who knows me, I usually love winter. Let me correct that. I used to love winter because it meant less work, more sleeping in and more time to do marketing, work on the website, have family time and a clean house. Well now I can officially say I dislike winter very much because the cold weather that slows down my shooting and gives a much needed break from the fall also makes leaving the house with a toddler an ordeal. And believe me, I need to get this girl out of the house every day. So I am scheming ways to tolerate winter. I will post about one of them very soon, but since I am not ready to ‘unveil’ it just yet, you will just have to wait ;)

You can use that handy dandy rss button up top to subscribe to my blog so that new posts will show up in your bookmark bar automatically. And become a fan on my facebook fanpage by using the little facebook button beside it. Thanks for stopping by. Come back often to visit!
